All Good Things...

It has been a pleasure to share my cycling thoughts with you over the last 1.3 years, but sadly I will not be posting any updates here for the foreseeable future. This is because of changes to the demands on my time, which includes learning another language and intensive re-training for a new career.

As I mentioned on Cycling London's first birthday, I really appreciate the comments and the regular page views from everybody, so thank you!

During the period of writing, I feel I've witnessed a significant blossoming of cycling's exponential popularity, in to a more accepted usual and mainstream mode of transport: Lycra not required.

Whether it is the affectionately-titled "bomb dodgers" commuting by bike, or the Kensington shoppers en route pour café, or the Brompton train commuters, or the triathlete trainers, or just me & others going to work; the rise of cycling commuters is very noticeable. I'm happy to have experienced that social awakening.

are there more cyclists?

or have you just noticed more of them...

like when you buy a car...
you start seeing more of that make and model around town

or if your wife gets pregnant...
you start noticing pregnant women

the blog will still be here
you can come back

Yes and Yes! :-)

I've certainly observed higher numbers on my routes. And in the formal statistical sense, numbers are definitely up and indicate continued growth. E.g.:

Sorry to hear you're not going to blog here anymore, but I completely understand. I am considering giving mine the heave-ho too. I just don't have the time and energy ever since I got promoted at work.

And I agree about the increase in cyclists on the road. I make it a habit to count the number of cyclists waiting at the lights at Hyde Park Cnr in the morning, and when I first started cycling in August 05 there'd be 20 at most. These days it is triple that number - and sometimes even more. Unfortunately, I now witness daily scenes of cycle rage -- with cyclists yelling at each other!

Wish you all the best for the future then. I cycle around London loads, especially when taking 360 panoramas from around the city. It would have taken much longer to do if I had to relay on public transport!

If you are interested they are linked to a Google map. You can find them on this map of London panoramas.

I really enjoy reading your blog, it always has great insight. But I am very frustrated with the fact that so few people are talking about presidential candidates and their thoughts on global warming. Now that it is down to just a few candidates I would think that this would be a bigger issue.

Live Earth just picked up this topic and put out an article ( http://www.liveearth.org/news.php ) live earth is also asking why the presidential candidates are not being solicited for their stance on the issue of the climate change. I just saw a poll on www.EarthLab.com that says people care a lot about what their next leader thinks of global warming. Does anyone know of another poll or other results about this subject?

Here is the page where I saw the EarthLab poll: http://www.earthlab.com/life.aspx. This is a pretty legit website; they are endorsed by Al Gore and the alliance for climate protection and they have a carbon footprint calculator. Does anyone have a strong opinion about this like I do?
